Why I will never drive a Chevy Volt Video
http://www.obamavolt2012.com Just putting my foot in it. Nothing like a dodge! Just out today, 1/23/12
DETROIT -- Some Chevrolet dealers are turning down Volts that General Motors wants to ship to them, a potential stumbling block as GM looks to accelerate sales of the plug-in hybrid.
THEY WON'T EVEN RECEIVE THEM BECAUSE NO ONE BUT OBAMA WANTS THEM!
To clarify, if we ...
To clarify, if we change our concept of what a 'car' is, then yes, batteries will become the way to go; but for as long as we expect a? car to be a 3500lb go anywhere tool with it's power supply completely on-board and a range of 200+ miles, gasoline and diesel will continue to be the energy source of choice.
You are mistaken; ...
You are mistaken; we're not looking at the beginning of a technology. Batteries have been around for over 150 years,? capacitors for over 250 years. They both pre-date the gasoline engine and they both have had massive amounts of research put into improving on the original concept. I am, rather, concluding they are not viable on sound engineering principles and a sound understanding of applied physics. The idea of an energy grid embedded in roadways though is quite feasible and probable.
you look at the ...
you look at the beginnings of a technology and conclude that is not viable ?
look at the beginning of gasoline cars, they were worse than horse carriages.
the industry is heavily investing in battery research, so that's the way it's going to go
whether we want it or not. I favor an electric grid like certain city buses already use combined? with a small battery.
I think that the car will once it's fully automated (driving itself)
will become an electric appliance & no longer be owned by people.
Part 3:
...
Part 3:
Theoretically (if they can find a way to extract pure? O2 from the atmosphere, and solve the oxidation issues) they're great and should achieve about 4 times the energy density of current batteries, making them roughly 8% of the energy density of gasoline. Compounding this will be the issues with cooling the high energy density battery as it is charged and discharged and the massive amount of equipment needed to purify air on the go, or the requirement for compressed air tanks.
Part 2:
The oxygen ...
Part 2:
The oxygen air batteries you speak of require a purified air source and are currently only theoretical. Why you? ask? Because they have a MAJOR problem with reality. Oxidation, that's all you need to know about why they will not become a viable product. The maximum number of cycles to failure they've obtained so far is ~30 with an energy density of half that of current lithium ion batteries.
The nanotube ...
The nanotube capacitors you speak were in development by MIT a few years ago and failed to beat current carbon based capacitors. The problem is surface area and breakdown? voltage. You still have to have a substrate of protons and neutrons to hold the electrons (E=MC^2 where 99% of your mass is not being used for energy). .
there are some ...
there are some promising technologies being developed
like nanotube capacitors or batteries with an air-intake for oxygen
those could rival chemical energy storage, because electric motors are cheaper more efficient, lighter & more powerful? than piston engines.
yea... IF batteries ...
yea... IF batteries didn't suck. But they do, and they will continue to do so for as long as the power source is an electron. E=MC^2 ?
Yeah i volt is a ...
Yeah i volt is a good deal for you when other people r helping pay for it. If it was such a good deal and people really wanted it the government? would not have to subsidize it
Kiplinger ...
Kiplinger Investment group says the Volt recoups higher cost in under 5 years. After that, it is a win win. Foreign cars built in this country are subsidized. Gas is subsidized. Hidden cost of gas is tax dollars used to keep the Straits Of Hormuz open, but most? of all, young American Lives. I use solar, I don't support Saudi terrorists. We are drilling more now than any time in our history & the oil companies are selling gas to China! I don't swallow! I don't hate ur car!
Very few? that ...
Very few? that drive that much, you don't live in? Texas the average mileage for a car in Houston is 20 to 25 g a year, that is 4 or 5 years and the warranty is finished for the batteries. Climb out of your own bubble, the Volt does nothing I need in a car, I need a diesel truck which are made around the world that get great mpg the government and auto companies are screwing us. Go to KBB and check the trade in value on your volt money talks bs walks
The SAE said it's a ...
The SAE said it's a winner. Best engineered car. Are you a member of the? SAE? Their qualifications are quite high.
Haven't you heard? ...
Haven't you heard? The battery pack is fully warrantied for 8 years. Hello!?! You are one of very, very few to drive that much. The Volt is not for you. But why tell me that it isn't for me? I have bought only 4 gallons in 6 months. I fully charge my? battery and it has 41 miles ready to go now that the weather has warmed up. By the end of the day, my total range is 47 miles. Once again, I think your car is just right for you. Good luck.
You could ride a ...
You could ride a bike with that little savings were is your battery cost factor in? batteries will not fall in price, I drive 20 to 24g a year, you have to add in the battery cost. You won't be singing your tune? when you try and sell this golfcart or buy a battery, call gm ask them what it will cost to replace it
You can play with ...
You can play with the mileage and payback time all you want the fact is everyone never factors in the 10g battery, and it will not go down in price don't say when production ramps up. Competition brings price down and batteries don't fall in price, go to walmart and find a battery that has fallen in price you won't Owebummers inflation takes care of that. I bet you don't drive 20 to 24g miles a year either, I? do the Volt is a looser
OK ... my Volt cost ...
OK ... my Volt cost $32,500. I've already saved $600 in gas in 6 months. $1,200 per year. That puts my Volt at $26,500 in 5 years. A $20,000 Accord will add $6,000 in gas in those 5 years. That Accord will cost $26,000 in 5 years.
I think the Kiplinger Investment Group knows a little more about operating costs of a car than? soda head dot com!
It was all over the ...
It was all over the news google the 26.6 years, You can save on gas all day long but in the end your batteries are the killer. When you go buy a battery? pack let me know how your feeling lol
According to the ...
According to the Kiplinger Investment Group car calculator, the Volt is $4,000 cheaper than the VW TDI after only 5 years. Of course, they are just one of the foremost investment groups in the world. I have no idea where you got the 26.6 years! My cost is already under $29,000 and goes down $1,500 every year that the TDI goes up $1,500. I pay just under 3 cents per mile for charging costs. Divide that into $4.25 a gallon and you'll? understand why recoup time is faster than you think.
No price drop for ...
No price drop for electric cars. Production will not ramp up, no one wants this crap. 1st you have to buy the battery pack made in Korea I believe. 2nd there is no battery on the planet that has dropped in price, it is made from raw materials which do not drop in price, 2nd you still have a regular motor and electric motors. No competition from outside mfg? for the battery pack. You have drank the kool-aid and believe in a dream. Wake up and deal with your bad decision
You give the same ...
You give the same argument about electric cars that the horse and buggy crowd said about the first automobiles and the same thing is going to happen, gasoline vehicles will be replaced by electric and hydrogen powered cars. Electric motors deliver torque on demand instantly the Fisker Karma puts out 959 foot pounds of torque, that should put a PO PO in anybody's pampers. Just like the first gas powered cars electrics are expensive now but once production ramps up? the price will drop drastically.
Caddie sound track ...
Caddie sound track at drag strip, Electric is not even close to being a realistic option. Volt has a 27 year payback timeframe! Think it will be on the road that long? Listen real close let me tell you exactly what will happen, $4,$5,$6 gas is not going away, Owebozo's 16tril debt has assured that. He is printing money, equals? inflation. Seen the exact thing in the 70s Everyone will jump on small econobox junk cars, gas models to try and survive. When fuel hits $7 or $8 a gallon diesels arrive.
Sorry I should have ...
Sorry I should have known your video was a FAKE, your civic must have a hellava stereo system or did you dub the audio from a nascar video, the truth is EVERY MAJOR AUTO MANUFACTURER IS BUILDING AN ELECTRIC CAR. So Mr. Horse and buggy what will you do when gas? gets to be TEN BUCKS A GALLON?? And by the way maybe you should see the video where a Tesla electric blows the doors off of a Corvette. Just trying to give you some edumacation as you are probably a Republican.
Hey dumbass if you ...
Hey dumbass if you learned anything in life it should be not to make judgments based on your emotionally based perceptions. Go back and watch the video, I increase the speed like in a Charlie Chaplin movie. GET A CLUE DUMBASS by the way? still would blow the doors off a Volt LMAO!
Hey dumb ass are ...
Hey dumb ass are you dead yet, looks like fun huh, the other people driving around you legally at 60 can and will eventually turn? right if front of you and we can only hope that that P.O.S. your driving has fantastic brakes or you will end up in their back seat and kill them and your stupid self, I used to do this when I was younger but I did it at 2 or 3 in the morning not in heavy traffic.
GET A CLUE DUMBASS
27YEAR PAYBACK!!! ...
27YEAR PAYBACK!!! OMG OMG!!!? OMG!!
For drivers of the ...
For drivers of the Chevrolet Volt ($31,767), the wait is even longer? 26.6 years.
A few vehicles begin paying off relatively soon after leaving the dealership. Two hybrids? Toyota's Prius ($23,537) and Lincoln's MKZ ($33,887)?? as well as Volkswagen's diesel-powered Jetta TDI ($25,242) all take less than two years before they start saving their owners money.
exactly my point, ...
exactly my point, but the car companies and the government know exactly what is available, Iran runs their cars on natural gas, Europe uses a lot of diesel, why don't we have
the diesel trucks like they do around the world, I'm? talking about the 1/2 ton pickup. I will tell you why gas is not at $8 a gal yet!
what these car ...
what these car companies fail to realize is that its? not the cars causing the problems (hence creating cars like the volt, leaf, etc.), its gas. There are alternative fuels that run your car just fine. So get rid of these stupid "alternative" vehicles and get better safer sources of fuel.
Come on over and I ...
Come on over and I will be happy to show you mine plus go to the mountains and show you about 200 others. There are thousands in my state alone that are off the grid -- so your one? in five shows just how uninformed you are and how little you know what you are talking about. The gas guzzlers have to carry about the same amount of weight as the batteries in , transmission plus drive train and let's not forget the extra gasoline the gas guzzlers have to carry -- another case of being misinformed.
You are correct . I ...
You are correct . I remember filling my personal car 4 trucks and 4 welders in late 2006 . It was about 50 bux for the car . 165 for each of the 4 trucks? and 44 bux for each of the 4 welders. I was so p**sed off . and broke.
